5 Blogging Secrets I Need to Know

So I have had this little ol' blog of mine for nearly a year, and there are some things I just don't understand. Still. Could someone please answer the following, as they are a blogging mystery to me!!!

1. Who takes all your model like pictures?

Seriously, please fill me in! All of these bloggers are looking all cute in their little outfits and looking all model like and it is obviously not a selfie...so please do tell me who takes your picture? Is it another blogger that lives close by to you? I know it isn't your husband. It cant be. My husband would literally die laughing if I asked him to take 5 pictures of me in the same outfit with different poses and a serious face. I would NEVER hear the end of it. Oh! The mockery and shame I would receive.

2. How do you have time for all this DIY project work. When did you make Pinterest your job?
I have a full time job. While I understand some bloggers out there are stay at home moms or stay at home wives, I think the majority of you have jobs where you have to leave the house and be at an office of some type for 8-10 hours per day. How in the hell do you have time to post a minimum of 1 new recipe and 1 new DIY craft project a week?! I'm lucky I have time to blog and fit in all of my TV shows. I must learn your superman skills. Also, how do you get all these Pinterest projects to work? I have more fails than I care to admit.

3. Who the hell is Phillip Lim and why have I never heard of him until everyone is writing posts about crying in Target because his bags are sold out:?!
Did I miss something? I have designer bags, and only designer bags. I am a designer bag snob. Yet, I have never heard of Phillip Lim and don't understand why his bags run so ridiculously high. Is it because I am old and not hip anymore? Please tell me this is not the end for me.

4. Where do you get money to sponsor all these bloggers and pay for an awesome design?
I might know the answer to this....you are selling all your DIY project items on Etsy maybe? If not, like seriously...where does they money come from? I am not a bigger blogger, not really my goal. But I just don't understand how everyone has money to pay for sponsoring and give aways and $150 blog designs. I am over here like "Hey I am trying to figure out design on my own because this blog makes me no money, so how can I justify to spend money on it?" Plus, I bet $150 would get me a pretty sweet Phillip Lim bag from Target....

5. Grooveshark. WTF?
I am an idiot. I even read Whitney's post on Grooveshark and yet I still can NOT figure out how to get the damn link to work in my blog posts. It is SOOOOO frustrating. So every Friday I am trying to backthatazzup and I just cant. I promise I have lots of awesome songs to share, I just am not sure of how to share said songs. It is probably most surely my messed up blog design. I promise I am fixing this shit, slow but steady!

Am I the only one who is totally clueless? Are there any blogging mysteries you want to have solved?

I am linking up with Joy today for the Friday Five. Happy Friday!

  1. One of the things I actually dislike about blogging is the "we all must have it" mentality of things like Philip Lim bags, etc. We like what we like, but we don't all need to like the same things. LOL

Everyone knows I'm always taking photos for my blog, but I will never be posing in an outfit photo. It's just not me.

I am super human efficient, so I can get a lot of shizz done in a week. It's not unusual for me to do a bunch of organizational projects and try 2-3 new recipes a week, even being out of the house from 7-6 Monday through Friday.

  3. Stopping by from Joy's blog and I agree 150%! Also, who knew that so many people have a $700 camera? I see some of my favorites in your sidebar so now I will have to follow along, obviously.

  4. If I get around to posting a DIY project or a recipe, its on the weekend. You can schedule your blog posts, so I try to write a bunch of them over the weekend (while football is constantly on) and schedule them that way. Or I start some and just leave them in Drafts mode. That way I always have something to turn to if I need to. For the fashion bloggers, they probably have tripods set up to take their pictures. I think I have seen 1 fashion blogger who had a photographer take her picture.

Jeremy and I joke that I need a blog budget for design or even sponsoring. I spend a good amount on blogging each month. We haven't come up with a budget yet, but it can get out of control. If you want a custom design, I have an Etsy designer who custom made my wedding website and only charged $25. She also did a GREAT job. You can see it if you want to. Just let me know and I will email you the link.

I am also new to Grooveshark. Using it is pretty easy. I can try to help you get it on your blog if you want.

  5. Pretty sure they have family, friends or the hubs taking those pictures. As crazy as that sounds. And of course, I'm a stay at home wife (soon to be mom) but I still don't do any of those pinterest projects. I mean sometimes there's still not enough time in the day even when you are at home. And sponsoring blogs... if ain't free – it ain't for me! Ha! But, you can find some really cute designs on etsy for cheap... I paid $100 over a year ago and it will stay that way until after the baby comes... then I'll probably change it up. And Grooveshark? Yeah, you lost me!

Happy Friday! Thanks for linking up today, and always! Love you, y'all have a great weekend!

  6. I agree, who takes all your model-like photos? I don't have any of those either.

  7. Ha. . . this made me laugh. I absolutely agree, though. Some people have way too much time on their hands *and I am soooo jealous - I would love to be able to be home all day*

Grooveshark I DO get - and it's actually pretty neat. I only ever use it to link up with Whitney on Friday's though.

  8. I died laughing! I am with you. I work from home, so no commute, and I can barely get spaghetti on the dinner table, let alone a new recipe with hand stitched placemats!

I spent $50 on my blog design, but honestly - I am learning things on my own now. I want to be able to make changes and everyhting on my own - without paying 5-10 bucks here and there. SO keep learning. Testing. Trying. Asking for help. You've got this!!

I can help you with Grooveshark - are you looking to just add the little player with the one song in a post?

  9. I found your blog through Joy's link up, and I have to say, this post cracked me up! I have wondered ALL these same things. Your honesty in asking these questions that lots of us wonder about is so refreshing! The truth is sometimes I ask my husband to take the photos of me and he gets pretty impatient LOL

  10. YES TO ALL OF THESE! My husband still cracks jokes when I take pictures of our dinner for the blog... so I can only imagine jokes I'd get for outfit pictures, hahah!
