What I am Most Afraid Of

Day 7 and it is getting deep! Today's topic is: The thing(s) you are most afraid of.

We can start with the obvious:

Spiders, snakes, bees and other nasty critters.
Heights of any kind.
Small spaces for a long period of time.
Getting stuck next to a semi truck in the pouring down rain, or around a sharp corner!

I am also terrified of losing a loved one.

Then there are the things that you gotta reach real deep to realize you are afraid.

So is about to get real.

I have recently discovered that I am afraid of succeeding. Sounds crazy, right? I think I need to go sit on a couch somewhere and work this out one day. I don't really know what it is that made me realize this, or what I should do about it?

Is the fear of succeeding all about the risk and getting your hopes up and eventually failing? Or is it more than that? It really is all so complex that I can't wrap my head around the idea, I just think that is my problem.

Do I feel I do not deserve success? I have worked really hard to get myself through school and finding a job that pays the bills. I am honest and hard working, I think I deserve some success. What is my deal?

  1. I think fear of success happens because, when you finally reach your goal, you might have no idea what to do next. It doesn't help that our society expects us to always be wanting something bigger and better (rather than appreciating what you have).

  2. you are getting deep. Amazing though how you can figure this out and admit it!

I too, am afraid of semi trucks and being stuck next to one! Just thinking about it gives me goosebumps.

We can be each others therapists!

  3. Definitely the most interesting answer I've read so far today. Do you ever set your standards of success lower just so you won't be disappointed if they don't happen? I definitely do that. I think it's more a fear of being disappointed than it is a fear of success. But you're right, this one will take a while to think through. It's a tough question.
